New Review Posted
This actually went up a couple days ago, but I just didn't get around to posting about it here til now. Ellen Parker has a) found an amazing piece of flash and b) written an equally compelling review. You should read the story and the review. Right now.

Issue 14 Is Live
With great thanks to Robbie Shapard, James Thomas, and all the writers, our special "Flash Fiction Forward" issue of SLQ is now live. Of the 80 authors in FFF, we were fortunate enough to be able to publish 24 in this issue, plus a piece by one of the editors, Robert Shapard. Great flash by CB Anderson, Mark Budman, Stace Budzko, Robert Earle, Utahna Faith, Sherrie Flick, R. L. Futrell, David Galef, Bayard Godsave, Tom Hazuka, Jennifer A. Howard, G. A. Ingersoll, Kit Coyne Irwin, Barbara Jacksha, John McCaffrey, Peter Mehlman, Christopher Merrill, Stacey Richter, Bruce Holland Rogers, Robert Shapard, Ersi Sotiropoulos, J. David Stevens, Melanie Rae Thon, Katharine Weber, and Kathleen Wheaton, with cover art, as always, by the inimitable Marty Ison.

Stats for Issue 13
Here are the stats for issue thirteen:
Issue Thirteen (live from 6/15/06-9/14/06)

6/15-6/30: 29481 page views
7/1-7/31: 51817 page views
8/1-8/31: 42117 page views
9/1-9/14: 29679 page views
Total Issue 13: 153094 page views

Hmmm. Down 17% since our last issue. Not sure what that means? Maybe less people reading during summer break? Or, perhaps more likely, since we were closed for subs, not as many writers were swinging by to see what we publish. Hopefully, this won't become a trend.

Recognition for SmokeLong
Well, this feels good. Found out about two different sources citing SmokeLong today, NewPages.com and the brand new All Write Stuff. NewPages.com lists Stuart Dybek's Brisket among its recommended reads, and All Write Stuff gives a complete review of the mag (along with reviews of FRiGG and NOÖ Journal, a couple fine mags where I've been fortunate enough to appear). A snippet from that review:

This is an e-zine done right! For quality fiction that provides a lasting poignant effect, Smokelong Quarterly raises the bar.

Nice to get a little recognition. :)

And now, back to assembling the latest issue, which comes out tomorrow.
